Upwardly Mobile by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg

In a video on YouTube, titled Upwardly Mobile, Dr Marshall Rosenberg, founder of Nonviolent Communication sings about the middle-class rut. My favourite line of the song around which I also carry some grief is 'I love money for the status it brings, not the people it could feed.' Hope it provides you with some fodder for reflection.

If I'm 98% perfect in everything I do, it will be the 2% I’ve messed up I’ll remember when I'm through. I’ve been saving, slaving, working my butt to the bone. I'm surrounded by people day and night, but I still feel all alone. Guess I’ve been upwardly mobile, inwardly futile, caught in a middle-class rut, racing to a know not, where to get a know not what. Deodorants hide my body. Tranquilizers hide my soul. Secrecy’s been a part of me since middle-class was my goal. I'm a patriotic consumer. I love money for the status it brings, not the people it could feed.
